On November 24, 2024, died peacefully at Nurse Maude, Merivale, aged 75 years. Dearly loved and cherished husband of Marie, loved and deeply respected father and father-in-law of Mark and Nikki, Christopher and Jocelyn, much loved grandfather of Kaiya, Xavier, and Bella; Matthew, Eli, and Ava. Eldest son of Andy and Ellen (Nellie) (both deceased). Loved brother and brother-in-law of Dorothy Mary (deceased),  Stephen (deceased), Ann and Rex Flemming, Daniel, Matthew and Linda, Paul and Jo Lysaght-Mckenzie, Angela and David Dixon (deceased),  Helen and Kevin Briggs (both deceased), Andrew and Jane, Veronica and Nigel Jollands, and loved brother-in-law of  Jim (deceased) and Betty Sunckell, Ian and Mary Sunckell, and Judith (deceased), Patricia and Kevin O’Brien, Shona and John McCartin, and loved by his nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Christchurch Hospital and Nurse Maude staff who cared for Gerard over the past weeks. Your support has been greatly appreciated.  At Gerard’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations to St Vincent de Paul would be greatly appreciated, and may be made at the service. A Requiem Mass will be held at St Gregory’s Catholic Church, 26 Cotswold Avenue, Bishopdale, on Thursday, November 28 at 11.00am, followed by a burial at Avonhead Park Cemetery. A Rosary will be held on the evening of Wednesday, November 27 at 5.30pm at St Gregory’s Catholic Church.
