Have just learned of Paul's passing. Many fond memories of growing up on our farm above Ohinetahi. Paul "Mouse" as we knew him and I spent many hours as littlies playing hide and seek in Ohinetahi's many rooms. In our first school photo (P1 to S6 in those days) we were the two little guys on the end. As we grew older going through primary together, we spent many hours searching rock pools or combing beach road on our bikes for anything useful that might have drifted ashore. We roamed the hills, with a walk to the Summit Rd, a highlight. Paul was always able to quickly identify any bird nest we found. One of our least successful ideas was making skis we thought would work when the mudflats were the drying. What freedom we enjoyed. As teenagers we endured many hours grinding over Dyers Pass in the bus to high school and getting home in the dark in winter. The day we both received School Cert his Dad, "Herbie", allowed us to sample his amazing cellar. It was the first time I was tipsy and there were many curves in the straight drive up to the gate and over the road to home. I didn't see a lot of Paul in later years but spent several hourse chatting when I was down for the GB school reunion. His garden made me envious, Papamoa sand doesn't cut. RIP
