Peter was a partner in Young Hunter & Co when I joined the firm as a law clerk in 1961. He became my guide and mentor. He taught me the ethics of legal practice as well as the practicalities. He was diligent in every respect and had a quirky sense of humour. He was a real gentleman. I recall being his junior in a then notorious fraud trial. Our client, the fraudster, went down and thence to prison. He nevertheless appreciated that we had done all that we properly could for him - a message he conveyed in a letter he wrote to me from prison. I know that from the very beginning his wife Jill meant everything to him. His time had come, but that does not diminish the sadness at his departure. Roderick Joyce, QSO, KC
